Heritage Homesteads Custom Built Homes
Tailored to Your Exact Needs
The benefit of building a custom home is being able to build the exact house you want, instead of being limited to a few changes to a builder’s set plans.
We often refer to a ‘blank canvas’ because that’s how it starts! We design, quote and build exactly what you are looking for.
As specialists in heritage building, our clients come to us for that look of traditional craftsmanship and yesteryear.
Some seek just a hint of heritage charm – a touch of colonial or heritage elements woven subtly into a modern design. Others wish for the full heritage experience – a home that from foundation to rooftop, inside and out, is a celebration of historical richness and detail.
No matter where your preferences lie, we are adept at tailoring our designs to match.
Yet if you’re like many homeowners looking for a heritage home, perhaps you have one of the following concerns:
Heritage Authenticity?
Design Worries?
Budget Nerves?
Timelines and Communication?
Structural Integrity?
You’re in the right place. Since 2005 we’ve helped many families build in the Scenic Rim, Gold Coast Hinterland, Brisbane and Logan Region. We’ve worked hard to gain the experience, develop the processes, and build the longstanding team to give clients the exact home they want – on schedule and budget.
Keep reading to discover how we got started and why we do things the way we do. Or for expert advice specific to your project, fill out our New Home Questionnaire and we look forward to helping you.

Types of Heritage Homesteads we Build
Heritage Homesteads excel in three heritage styles, each with their unique charm and historical significance.

The Classic Queenslander
The iconic Queenslander home, first created in the 1850’s, was designed for both form and function. It’s raised design, set high on timber stumps to allow for free movement of humid air and floodwater, originally designed for Australia’s extreme climate, became it’s architectual feature.
This high set single story house was made of timber with a corrugated iron roof. The light timber framed structure allowed houses to be built on variable slopes and terrain with minimal ground excavation.
British colonial traditions influenced the adoption of generous wrap around verandahs, often used as an extension of the indoor living space. As well as the classic VJ panelling, ornate ceiling roses, handrails, verandah brackets, and the iconic tank roll verandahs. These details bringing alive the stylish aesthetics of the past.
Our popular Queenslander style homes are so true to their roots they leave people wondering - is this a lovingly renovated heritage piece or newly built replica?
The Lavish Federation Home
The Australian Federation style emerged in the late 19th century and was predominant in Australia from 1890 to 1915. Often referred to as The Queen Ann style, it is characterized by a blend of British and American architectural influences, modified to suit Australia’s subtropical climate.
These homes are not mere structures; they are narratives of architectural beauty, each telling its own unique story, which greet you with an intricate dance of ornate fretwork. Old English architecture was used to create whimsical, theatrical houses with all the ‘bells and whistles’.
Characterized by complex roof forms, elaborate gables, tall chimneys, expansive verandahs with ornate brackets, deep red or brown brickwork, bay windows, leadlight windows and ornate fireplaces. Each detail adding layers of character - making these homes a living, breathing testament to history and elegance.
The Cosy American Farmhouse
Traditional American farmhouses were simply built, with local wood or stone on farms. They began as very modest structures and were often added onto as the family grew or prosperity increased.
The farmhouse is most recognizable by its core design elements that consist of large covered porches, white exterior, dormer windows in classic symmetry of windows and doors and dominant fireplaces.
These days, as with our Australian heritage homes, there is a growing interest in combining the rustic allure of early rural America with the sophistication of modern design.
Now labeled the Modern American Farmhouse it includes a more open floor plan, larger windows, impressive entry doors and lofty coffered or cathedral style ceilings. Styling such as white or natural hues, shiplap walls, timber floors, exposed beams and often barn style doors are used to retain the quaint country charm an old-world grandeur of the past.
A Seamless Blend of Past and Present
Walking into one of our homes is like the past meeting the comfort of the present, offering a living experience that’s both charming and practical. There's a common misconception that heritage homes are impractical for modern living.
However, every home we build is designed to maintain the traditional essence while reshaping it to fit today's open plan lifestyle. For instance, the original layout of Queenslanders, was compartmentalised – each room a separate entity. Kitchen’s were usually in a rear corner, with hot wood burning stove, now they are the centerpiece ‘heart and soul’ gathering area of modern homes.
Today, we crave spaces that blend and flow seamlessly, where the indoors extend to the outdoors, transforming the back patio into an additional living space. Our approach is to open these spaces, creating an interconnected environment that respects your home's heritage while embracing modern living standards
